Question of the Day (December 13, 2013)

An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. The usage of an allegory can be a powerful way to express one's ideas because it allows someone to express their honest and controversial opinion in an entertaining way. Because humans are more drawn to focus to things that are interesting and different, allegories are often used to get people to pick sides of a controversial topic.

Hey Guys!

In chapter 5 of Animal Farm by George Orwell, Squealer, one of the leading pigs, made a speech saying, "No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would only be too happy to let you make your decision for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where will you be?". Of coarse being the smooth talker he is he managed to make the animals on the farm trust him and continue to be loyal to Napoleon. I would think that Squealers speech was quite convincing if I were to be an animal on the farm with their level of intellects; however, if I were to think normally in the real world I would find that Squealer is helping Napoleon gain more support towards his dictatorship. Napoleon doesn't at all care for the animals rights, he only really cares for his own benefits. I also find that squealer looks down on the other animals because he mentioned in his speech that Napoleon will crease their chances of making the wrong decision.  All in all i think that Squealer us just helping Napoleon for their own sakes and gain more power over the animals.

Hey Guys!

Leadership. What does that word mean to you or what's your definition of leadership. In the novel Animal Farm ,by George Orwell, the pigs, Napoleon, Snowball, and Squealer, in his book were leader because they were to smartest out of all the other animal. Intellects is honestly not the only quality to look for in a good leader because intellects doesn't always mean that person will care for anyone else but himself. When looking for a good leader one must have a great amount of common sense, equality, and responsibility towards those who follow him.We selected our leader, Anushna, in our Society Challenge because she has all of these qualities.
